STEP in STEM is an opportunity for teachers to create Project Based Learning units for themselves and other teachers to use in the classroom. It was also an opportunity to work in a Project Based Unit to produce the unit. This learning experience was sponsored by TI and was at the University of Texas at Dallas.
My Project Based Learning unit requires my students to write a website and lesson for one of their content area teachers that are using TI Handheld technology. If you would like to try this project in your classroom, see the contacts.
The original scope of the project was to be a 2 week unit, however, my course already has a unit where we create a client website. I have decided to narrow the scope of that project by narrowing the choice of client. Instead of choosing any client, the students must choose a math or science teacher at our school.
Purpose
Web Mastering is about creating and improving content on the web. The purpose of this project is to create or improve content in the classroom, specifically a classroom that uses TI Handheld Technlogy.
I have been blogging since I decided to create the project. The blog is at Typepad and called STEP in STEM. This would be a good place to start to find out how I developed the project.
I also have a live.com site where we can share documents and information, please email me at kweaver at dallasisd.org to join.
Project
Create content for the TI Handheld Technology including a presentation demonstrating your content and using the technology that you already know. This content will modify or create a lesson from another classroom that uses TI handheld technology. Your goal is to create a different lesson that explains the concept in a different way than the existing content.
Product
A lesson with a supporting website for other students using TI Handheld technology and web presentation demonstrating that lesson.
